Course Description:

 

This course is for students to establish their English communication skills in the business field through reading and discussing current business news articles. In addition, students are required to read seven GMAT reading comprehension articles to develop their critical reasoning and reading abilities. In this semester, the course will focus on the following: corporate finance, investment, management, and technology topics. Corporate finance topics include Alibaba IPO, Apple Computer’s cash holdings, and Foxconn’s deal for Sharp. Investment topics include Eugene Fama’s view about market efficiency, a JFE2007 paper about financial institutions and analysts, and Berkshire Hathaway’s annual letter by Warren Buffett. Management topics include Jim Collins’ idea “How to manage through chaos” and JF2012 paper “Which CEO characteristics and abilities matter?”. Technology topics include Virtual Reality, electric car, and Internet of things. In the last class meeting, students will analyze a case “Developing the Materiality Matrix at Telefonica”.
