Course Description:

The Extensive Reading is designed to help students arrive at an understanding of the English language proficiency required for academic studies. This course will focus on helping students improve their academic reading skills and become literate members of their disciplines. The student handout in Appendix 1 will supply students with essential information about the course.

This course unites Intensive Reading skills with Extensive Reading through fostering a love of reading for pleasure while at the same time understanding the academic English reading that students in the International Department require. Teaching academic reading skills through Extensive Reading, or reading for pleasure, exposes students to different genres and the time spent comprehensively acquiring these skills will benefit individual development of English proficiency.

Every year, the International School has many students who opt to continue studies abroad.  It is important for students to know that a TOEFL or IELTS score is simply a test result. University instructors abroad will not slow down to accommodate students struggling with their English even if they have achieved an acceptable TOEFL or IELTS score.
